Hearts Women & Hibs Women To Challenge For Capital Cup

The Women’s Capital Cup will be one of the most iconic games in the calendar for Hibs and Hearts Women as they look to not only take the local bragging rights, but also a brand-new trophy!

The first fixture will be played at Easter Road on Sunday 27 November 2022 and the return fixture takes place at Tynecastle on Sunday 26 February 2023. The trophy will be lifted by the winner of each game.

To mark these big occasions, and thanks to the generous support of Baillie Gifford, supporters from both sides will be able to attend the games free of charge! Tickets can be collected from the Ticket Office at Tynecastle Park. 

Ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to attend, both clubs will work with local community groups to ensure that the broadest cross section of communities can get involved, fostering greater inclusion and diversity in Scotland’s national game.

Supporters at each fixture will also be able to back the work of each team’s charitable foundation, further strengthening the amazing work that the Hibernian Community Foundation and Big Hearts do in their local communities.

Hibernian FC Chief Executive Ben Kensell commented: “We are delighted to launch the Capital Cup alongside Hearts as we look to enhance and grow women’s football in Scotland.

“It was a really proud moment for everyone at Hibernian FC last season to see 5,512 supporters at Easter Road for the Edinburgh Derby – a record crowd for a domestic women's fixture in Scotland – and it was great to see so many supporters at Tynecastle too.

“Thanks to the support of Baillie Gifford, we hope to not only see more supporters in attendance at these games, but to inspire the next generation of female footballers.”

“The fixtures between the two teams have been well attended by both sets of supporters.

“These games have already shone a light on the huge appetite for Women’s Football in the Capital and we are excited to see how far we can grow attendances and support the wider growth of the game in Scotland.”

Women’s football is the fastest growing participation sport in Scotland, bucking a trend that has seen levels of physical activity amongst girls drop substantially in recent years.

With Baillie Gifford’s support, Hibs and Hearts are also joining forces off the pitch to create an innovative community initiative that will inspire more to get involved and provide unparalleled access to ensure that Edinburgh’s diverse communities can all take part.
