Match Report: Hearts 3-2 Partick Thistle

05 May 2024

Hearts Women picked up another victory at Oriam on Sunday as they defeated Partick Thistle 3-2.

Eva Olid made four changes to the side that lost to Rangers during the week. Captain Georgia Hunter sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during that match, meanwhile Lizzie Waldie also missed out through injury, whereas Addie Handley and Charlotte Parker-Smith dropped to the bench.

In came Rachael Johnstone, Sade Adamolekun and 16-year-old duo, Jess and Erin Husband.

The visitors were hit for six on their last visit to Oriam and the early signs weren’t good for the Jags on this occasion either, as the Jambos flew out the traps and raced into an early lead after 13 minutes.

Much of Hearts’ joy was coming down the right-hand side and when Emma Brownlie lofted a nice ball in-behind the Thistle backline for Katie Lockwood, her cross-cum shot was perfect for Kathleen McGovern to head home at the back post.

Just two-minutes later, McGovern and Hearts, doubled their tally for the afternoon. Again, it came down the right-hand side and this time it was Adamolekun with the delivery, Ava Easdon couldn’t claim it cleanly, and McGovern was on hand to tap home into the empty net.

It was one-way traffic at this stage and Hearts were so close to adding a third just before the half-hour mark.

Jess Husband and Kate Mooney linked up well down the right and when the former stuck a cross up at the back post, Monica Forsyth was waiting to volley at goal and with Easdon stranded, her effort camr back off the underside of the crossbar.

Thistle had offered very little and when Rachel Donaldson crossed for Carla Boyce, she could only flick wide at the front post.

Half-time: Hearts 2-0 Partick Thistle

The second half didn’t produce nearly as many chances as the first, but Hearts weren’t in any danger up the other and they added a third goal 18 minutes from time.

Adamolekun lofted a cross in from the right and Lockwood was on hand to tap home at the back post.

Thistle were handed a route back into the game just three minutes later, Lockwood was adjudged to have fouled Emma Lawton in the penalty box, and Cara Henderson kept her cool to pull one back.

The Jags ensured a nervy finish as Kodie Hay curled home a second, five minutes from the end but Hearts saw the remainder of the game to pick up another precious three points in the race for fourth spot.
