Naismith: All To Play For

22 August 2024

Steven Naismith remains optimistic ahead of next week’s second leg meeting with Viktoria Plzen at Tynecastle, saying the tie remains very much alive.

A late own goal proved to be the Jambos’ undoing in Czechia, but the boss says he’s happy with the performance and highlighted the importance of a rocking Tynecastle when the two sides meet again in a week’s time.

“I thought it was a tight tie. Overall, our performance was really good. Our discipline and structure out of possession was excellent,” he told Hearts TV.

“When we had the ball, we created chances. Over the piece, I thought we had better chances but it was always going to be fine margins and that’s what’s happened.

“It comes down to almost the last kick of the ball for them to score. Next week we’re at home, with the atmosphere at Tynie, and that will help us. The ties in the balance but overall I’m pleased.

“We dealt with it well last season against Rosenborg. We don’t need to make anyone aware of that and we showed tonight and we created good chances.”
