Naismith on St Mirren (A)

20 September 2024

Steven Naismith is looking for his Hearts side to create higher quality chances ahead of tomorrow’s trip to St. Mirren.

The Jambos head west to Paisley to face Stephen Robinson’s side on William Hill Premiership business, with the men in maroon hunting for a crucial first win of the campaign.

Under no illusions about the importance of a win tomorrow, the boss remains confident Hearts can turn the tide and get three points on the board.

“It’s been a tough start. There have been poor moments, as well as some good moments,” he told the media ahead of the game.

“Our performance against Celtic was good defensively, compared to what happened during the week.

“As you get success, you need to keep finding new ways to put teams under pressure and we haven’t been good enough at doing that. That’s the biggest thing, and we’ve been punished for every mistake we’ve made.

“I don’t think that will continue, because we’ll get luck in some respects. We need to create more chances and finish those chances. I think that’s the short-term fix and will give us a better chance in games.

“We’ve not been good enough and ultimately that falls down to my mistakes and is also my responsibility. We’ve been working relentlessly to put that right and I’m hopeful that will pick up.

“Some of our new players are becoming more comfortable. I’ve got full confidence in the squad, and I’ve got real belief we can get a result tomorrow.”
