Space Invaders

Play the Game: Space Invaders is an exciting new resource designed to help grassroots coaches and volunteers. Packed with 60 dynamic games that bring energy and creativity to weekly practice sessions, these are practices we are sure your players will enjoy. Each activity focuses on small-sided invasion style games which capturing the spirit of street football—the hallmark of the Play the Game programme.

Why Space Invaders?

The Space Invaders resource is perfect for coaches looking to:

• Inspire creativity, risk-taking and problem solving in players.
• Introduce varied games at any time during a sessions
• Provide adaptable activities suitable for all ages and stages, different techniques in front of goal.

Coaches needn’t worry about being the next Pep or Klopp, these practices are straightforward to set up and only require a simple demonstration before the game begins. Once the players are in action, coaches can step back and let them play or occasionally offer valuable insights to make attacking more dangerous or defending more effective.

Customizable for Your Needs

All Space Invader practices are flexible, allowing coaches to adjust areas, equipment, instructions, timings, and scoring to suit the unique needs of their teams and facilities.

Take it Further with Practical Demonstrations

For coaches, teams, or clubs interested in hands-on learning, we offer practical workshops and in-service sessions at community clubs. These sessions are led by experienced trainers and demonstrate how to use Space Invaders effectively. Contact alanwhite@homplc.co.uk to arrange a workshop.

• Interactive Activity Session: A 1.5-hour fun and dynamic session showcasing a variety of Space Invaders games with club coaches participating.
• Q&A Opportunities: Discuss how to adapt the games for different age groups, skill levels, and facilities.
• CCD Credit: Attendees can earn Continuous Coach Development (CCD) credits on the Scottish FA Comet system (if required).
• Take-Home Resources: Each coach receives a high quality hard copy of the Space Invaders booklet.
