Eva: Our key was belief
15 January 2023Hearts are unbeaten at home in the league this season, so they went into the match full of belief and in a change of formation, Hearts decided to match Rangers up with a back four and a three in the middle of the pitch.
It was a brave call from Olid, but it worked, as Hearts largely nullified Rangers, particularly in the middle of the pitch. Charlotte Parker-Smith did what she does best when called upon, but on the whole, it was a deserved point for Hearts and OIid believes the key to the result was belief.
“I think today is so important for us. Teams do not believe they can get a result against the top three. This result is to show all the teams in the league that you have to believe. If you believe, anything can happen and that is why today is so important.
“If we look at the first half, we could have scored. We said at half time we could actually win the game because we had those opportunities.
“In the second half though, we did drop deeper, and they did have more opportunities, but we believed in the 90-minute game plan.”
Hearts Women have come on leaps and bounds as a team under Olid, but she admits that it is the players, who deserve all the credit.
When asked on what she has already achieved at the club, she laughed, replying “Yes, but it is the players who do all the hard work. They are the ones on the pitch. We just try to motivate them and help them with the technical side.”
It is no secret that a point gained against the champions could be a massive point in Hearts’ battle for fourth place, but Olid explains that Hearts have to keep winning every week to achieve their aims.
“It is true. That sometimes happens in football when teams get a big result like this, and they drop their energy and performance. We have to go more. This has to make us believe that we can beat the top three and we can fight in the future to be in that top three, so now we can’t afford to make mistakes. We need to win every game.”
