Match Report: Motherwell Women 0-0 Hearts Women

23 December 2024

Hearts drew 0-0 away to Motherwell in their Scottish Women’s Premier League fixture at K-Park on Sunday afternoon.

Eva Olid made three changes from the side that won 2-0 over Spartans. Joely Andrews, Jessica Husband and Georgia Timms all returned to the starting eleven.

The Jambos dominated the possession throughout the match, but struggled to find the breakthrough against a resolute Motherwell side.

The first clear cut chance of the afternoon for Hearts arrived on 25 minutes. Following some neat passing, the ball came to Jessica Husband at the edge of the area, who played it into Eilidh Shore in the box. The midfielder got a strike off, but her effort sailed over the crossbar.

Moments later, Hearts continued to pile on the pressure. The ball is played down the left wing to Sade Adamolekun, who pulled off a great back heel to play Lisa Robertson through on goal, however the Motherwell defence managed to clear it away.

In the 35th minute, Adamolekun switched the play brilliantly to Jessica Husband on the right flank, who drove into the box and pinged a cross to the back post, but it was claimed well by Emily Mutch in the Motherwell goal.

The hosts would have their first opportunity of the afternoon soon after. The corner was played out to the edge of the box to defender Bailey Collins, who tried to whip it into the top right corner with her left foot, but it went well wide of the far post in the end.

The Jam Tarts looked to go ahead just before the break. Lisa Robertson got down the left flank and crossed the ball into striker Georgia Timms. Her left-footed volley agonisingly went over the bar.

Half-time: Motherwell 0-0 Hearts

In the second half, Motherwell began to grow into the game.

Collins would have another chance to open the scoring for the home side. Motherwell won the ball just outside the Hearts box, and Collins attempted an audacious strike from distance which went wide of the target.

Up the other end, Georgia Timms was on the end of a ball played over the top by defender Elizabeth Waldie. She took on a Motherwell defender before unleashing a low strike which hit the side netting.

On 60 minutes, Lauren Wade made a brilliant run down the left wing and got to the byline before she whipped in a threatening low cross, but there wasn’t a Hearts jersey in the box to meet it.

In the closing stages of the match, Hearts had one final chance to win it. The corner was whipped in from the left and it came to Timms who took a touch before getting a shot off, which was blocked by a Motherwell defender in a frantic penalty area.
