Kye's European excitement

06 November 2024

Kye Rowles admits his Hearts teammates cannot wait for 8pm on Thursday and for another European night under the lights at Tynecastle to begin.

The Jambos play hosts to German side FC Heidenheim on matchday three, with both sides coming into the match in good form having won their opening two European matches.

The Aussie admits that the European competition brings about a different level of excitement and speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, explained that the team are now searching for consistency:

“It’s exciting," said Rowles. "We’ve had a couple of good results in Europe so far. We want to continue that theme. Tomorrow is going to be a very tough ask, but we’re all excited and can’t wait to be out there.

“We’ve struggled the first ten or so games to find results. So, we’re still just trying to find our feet under the new manager and get to playing at a consistently good level. You can’t just flick a switch and win every game, as much as you’d like to.

“We’re still working on things and getting better as a side. We’re just trying to keep our heads down, work hard and try get to that consistently good level."

When asked what a victory on Thursday night would mean, Rowles replied, "It'd be massive for the confidence within the squad.

"Just to know that we can match it with the top guys at the highest level. We’re just worried about playing our game, sticking to the plan and hopefully we’ve got enough to make something special.

“We’re trying not to get too ahead of ourselves. Domestically we’ve not been great, so we’re just taking it one game at a time and trying to play our way back into good form.

“You can’t focus too far on the future as then you lose a grip on the present."
