TIME TO PUSH ON

18 July 2023

Lizzie Waldie is determined to help Hearts Women push on for a potential European spot after joining the Jambos on a one-year deal.

The defender joins the club following four years at Crystal Palace where she helped the Eagles achieve a fifth place finish last season.

Now, Lizzie makes the switch to Edinburgh and has already joined up with her new teammates at pre-season training.

“I would say I am quite composed on the ball," she told Hearts TV, when asked about what the fans can expect to see from her.

"I like to pick out a pass. I’m quite tall so I like to win the ball in the air, whether that’s in an attacking position or defending my own box, I would say I like to get there first and win the ball."

Speaking about her time in England, Waldie continued: “I enjoyed it. It was my first proper professional team. I believe I developed an amazing amount there and that’s the reason I am here now, because of Palace.

“The Championship is a good league. Everyone wants to try and play nice football. It is also aggressive, especially when you play the more northern teams, they are very aggressive, so you have to step up your game."

Waldie joins Hearts at an exciting time as the team look to build on last season's record-breaking campaign and admits the high ambitions the club has for the future convinced her to join the Jambos.

“The conversations I had with Eva and Sean sold me on the club. Their ambitions not just for this season but further ahead, that was something I really wanted to be a part of.

“The way they want to play, that is definitely a team I want to be playing in, so hopefully we can push on now and try to close that gap between the top three and ourselves. I really want to push on and try to get that Champions League spot."
