Snodgrass signs

The 34-year-old joins the Jambos on a one-year deal as a free agent, subject to international clearance.

He brings a wealth of experience to the squad having spent several years playing in the English Premier League for the likes of Norwich City, Hull City, West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion.

Born in Glasgow, Robert came through the Livingston youth system before making his first debut in 2004. He would go on to make 92 appearances for the Lions, scoring 17 goals, before winning a move to Leeds United.

He helped the Elland Road side reach the Championship by finishing runner-up in the 2009/10 League One campaign and his performances for Leeds saw him move to then-Premier League side Norwich City in 2014.

After two years at Carrow Road, Robert was on the move again, this time to Hull City. Despite relegation from the top flight in 2015, he was part of the side that won promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking after winning the Play-Off Final against Sheffield Wednesday.

With yet more Premier League football under his belt, West Ham came calling in January 2017 and he moved to the Olympic Stadium in a multi-million pound deal. He would spend four years at the Hammers, including a season-long loan at Aston Villa, before departing for West Brom in January 2021.

A year later he spent a short-term stint at Luton Town, helping them to the Play-Offs, before leaving at the end of the season.

Robert won the first of his 28 Scotland caps back in 2011 and scored his first international goal the same year against Denmark. He would go on to score seven goals in total before announcing his retirement from international football in 2019.

He’ll now pull on the famous maroon jersey for the 2022/23 campaign, and the manager told the Official Hearts Website: “I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to bring Robert in for the season.

“He’s got a huge amount of experience and has played at the highest level, both domestically and for his country.

“The knowledge he’ll bring to the squad, as well as his qualities on the pitch, will be invaluable and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Sporting Director Joe Savage said: “Robert had offers elsewhere but after we spoke to him he decided that Hearts was the place to be, and we’re delighted that he’s here.

“He’s a household name in Scotland and has spent years playing at the top level in England, so it was too good an opportunity to pass up and as we’ve stated in the past, we’ll always bring in quality over quantity and wait for the right moment to do so.

“Robert coming in gives Robbie more options and squad depth for our domestic campaign, which is hugely important for us.

“We’ve got some really talented young players at this club and I hope that they are able to learn from Robert because he really does have a lot to offer.”
