Craig previews Petrocub (H)

18 December 2024

Craig Gordon says Hearts need to make a strong response in tomorrow night’s UEFA Conference League match against Petrocub.

Victory will secure European football at Tynecastle after Christmas and the experienced goalkeeper knows that Hearts have an opportunity to get back on track following Sunday’s defeat at Kilmarnock.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference Craig said:

“We've spoken about the Kilmarnock game. It was addressed in the changing room straight afterwards. We've spoken about it since at the training ground, and we've now switched to looking forward to this game and what we need to do to get the win.

“That now shifts the focus onto this. It's a massive game, a brilliant one to be involved in, to have a go, to try and get through to the next round of a European competition. We now have to switch our focus fully onto this and give this the best shot to do, which would be a fantastic achievement to get through.

“You never know how these games are going to pan out. We started very well here against Omonoia, got a couple of goals up, and controlled the game.

“There's no guarantee that will happen again. We've watched videos on Petrocub, they look a decent team. They passed the ball, they haven't lost many goals, nobody's really hammered them in the last few games that they've played at this level against good standard of opposition.

“They know what they're doing, this is not an easy match at all and we'll need to play well to win the game.”
