Elton: Djoum's valuable advice
08 February 2025How’s your 2025 started? If it’s been anything like Elton Kabangu’s; it bodes well going forward.
The Belgian livewire has been a smash hit in Gorgie since arriving on loan from Union St-Gilloise this January, diving in at the deep end with five goals in four appearances on the goal trail for the Jambos.
Speaking to Hearts TV ahead of Monday night’s Scottish Cup meeting with St. Mirren, Elton reflected on his journey to Tynecastle, why he’s hungry for more, and how his mother and brother’s influence has shaped his career.
As part of the conversation, Elton detailed how a chat with former Jambo, Arnaud Djoum, helped sell the move to him.
Djoum is a player/coach in Union’s B Team, and assured Elton he would be made to feel at home quickly in the capital, highlighting his own four years in Gorgie where he made 132 appearances.
“The first month has been good,” said Elton.
“I think this is a warm club, I feel directly at home, and they make me feel good and important. I'm happy that I get those results from the first game, and I want to continue this.
“The first thing (Arnaud) was talking about was the stadium and the fans. He said it's incredible when you score a goal there, you're going to feel the energy and the passion that the people here have. And then he spoke about people that he knows. Foxy, obviously.
"Clare (Cowan), he told me about them, that they're going to help me. He was positive and he's someone that I appreciate a lot and that I also spoke to during the season.
“So, when he speaks, you always make sure to listen well. I took his advice really seriously and I really consider it. It helped me also to decide about coming here or not. He said he had his best seasons at Hearts.”
