Lizzie Waldie signs new Hearts deal

01 May 2024

Hearts Women are delighted to announce that Lizzie Waldie has signed a new contract to remain at the club until the summer of 2026.

Lizzie joined the club from Crystal Palace last summer and has been a mainstay at the heart of a very solid Jambos backline.

A ball-playing central defender by trade, Waldie is comfortable in a back three, or four, but has regularly featured on the left of a back three this season.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website on the news, manager Eva Olid said:

“Lizzie has been a key player in our defence this season. Especially in big matches, she has stepped up and you can see the experience she has picked up from playing in England.

“The way she plays the game as that ball-playing centre back, is what we need for our style of play. She is also a really nice person and just a joy to work with.

“When we started discussions, Lizzie didn't have any doubt that she wanted to stay here. She made it so clear to us that she wanted to be in this team and that’s something we value a lot.

"We want to have players who really want to be in this project and grow with the team. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for her at Hearts.”

Women’s Head of Recruitment, Sean Burt added:

“Lizzie has been fantastic all season. She has been one of our most consistent performers, which was highlighted by her Player of the Year nomination.

“Part of our recruitment strategy is to recruit rare profiles of women’s player and Lizzie is that, but again, you move away from home for the first time and there will always be question marks as to how players will react to that.

“Lizzie has taken all of that in her stride and as well as being fantastic on the pitch, she has a great personality off it and is just a great person to have around the group.

“We believe Lizzie is a very talented player, who has a very bright future ahead of her, so it is great to see her signing a new contract for two more seasons.”

Congratulations, Lizzie!
