Match Report: Broomhill 1-1 Hearts B
11 March 2025Hearts B were forced to settle for a point against Broomhill on Tuesday night in a 1-1 draw at the Rock.
Angus Beith made three changes from the side that faced Caledonian Braves last Friday. Lyndon Tas returned in goal, meanwhile Alfie Osborne and Gregor Burn were brought into the midfield.
It was a difficult surface on what was a chilly night at the Rock, but the men in maroon started the game well with both Dom Plank down the left and Taylor Hogarth on the opposite flank delivering dangerous balls across the face of the Broomhill goalmouth.
Up the other end, the home side were fairly direct in their approach and showed no hesitation in delivering crosses of their own. Callum McKenzie was first to test Tas in the Hearts goal, but on the turn, the striker saw his effort well saved by the stopper.
Alex Fairlie was next to go close for the hosts on 20 minutes, after nipping in behind Osborne, he fired over from an acute angle.
The Jambos produced the best move of the match shortly after with a nice one-two involving Henry James and Dom Plank saw the former charge into the box, before seeing his effort blocked.
The home side went in front just five minutes later and after Smutek was adjudged to have fouled McKenzie, the striker stepped up to send Tas the wrong way and open the scoring on 26 minutes.
The Wee Jambos finished the half on the front foot and after Hogarth let fly from the edge of the area, his effort whistled just wide of the post, before Haddow saw a goalbound strike deflected narrowly wide.
Half-time: Broomhill 1-0 Hearts B
Angus Beith made two switches at the interval with Lucas Smith and Connor Dow introduced and the men in maroon came close to equalising early in the second half. Plank left his man for dead on the left, but again there were no takers waiting in the box to turn the ball home.
There was plenty of endeavour from the Wee Jambos, but Broomhill limited them to very little, the closest they came to an equaliser was when Dom Plank found space in the middle of the park and forced a good fingertip stop from Harry Broun.
It didn’t look like the equaliser was going to come, but seven minutes from the end, Kenzi Nair lofted the perfect through ball for Connor Dow, who took a good first touch before slotting the ball past Broun for the equaliser.
There was further late drama as just seconds later, Nair was shown a second yellow card for a foul on the touchline.
The home side thought they’d snatched all three points in the final moments as the ball was bundled home from a free kick, but the whistle had blown for a push on Smith in the build-up.
The drama wasn’t done there as Crookston was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time as the Wee Jambos finished the match with nine-men as both sides had to settle for a point.
