Neil: A Big Three Points
23 February 2025Neil Critchley praised his Hearts side for navigating adverse weather conditions as they defeated St. Johnstone 2-1 at McDiarmid Park.
The men in maroon picked up three Premiership points in Perth, moving up to seventh in the Premiership table, and the boss was pleased to send the travelling support home happy.
“It was a hard-fought victory,” he told Hearts TV.
“It wasn't easy, because of the conditions, but I thought it was a decent game, really. Both teams trying to win the game.
“I thought we edged the game in terms of chances and I'm delighted for Elton to get two goals after last week. Craig Gordon's pulled off a match-winning save for us, so it's the start of a big week and it's three important points because we bounced back from defeat last week, which is vitally important.
“To come here in these conditions at 12 o'clock on a Sunday must have been an early start, so we're grateful for their fantastic support. They get right behind the team, and I'm absolutely pleased that we've given them three points and a happy journey home for them.
“You have to adapt to the conditions that you're playing in and there's no point moaning about it. It is what it is.
“You can only affect the things that you can affect and that's our mentality, that's our attitude, that's our performance. And I felt we did that. And St Johnstone are a difficult opponent.
“The way they play the game, they don't make it easy for you. And you have to be fully concentrated, and you have to take advantage of the moments that they give you. We did for the second goal, and we had a few other opportunities that we didn't quite capitalise on, which maybe could have finished the game off.”
