Olid: We deserved Celtic victory

17 March 2025

Eva Olid admits Hearts are still very much alive in the SWPL title race after a 3-1 victory over Celtic saw them move just two points behind Elena Sadiku’s side and eight points off top spot.

Emma Brownlie headed the women in maroon in front after just 8 minutes and a second half brace from Georgia Timms either side of a Saoirse Noonan strike was enough to secure a deserved three points for the Jambos.

Speaking to Hearts TV at full-time, Olid said:

”I think that we deserved it and after last week, we were unlucky to not get the win last week to go through to the next round, playing so well. And I knew that today was the day to get what we deserved and I'm so happy.

"We could’ve scored more goals too. We had clear chances and some shooting not on target, but yeah, we could score still more goals and that is so good. It's not that you win, and you just have three opportunities.

“We had a lot of chances still to score more goals and I think we dominated a lot of times in the match, that we controlled the game and had the possession. Just a few moments that were more transitional, but I think that what we have to do is that, is have the ball, keep the possession and try to dominate all the games.

“I’m frustrated that we conceded again from a corner, such a simple corner. We have to improve in that because when you concede from set pieces, it's so annoying because if you concede an amazing goal, you cannot do anything. But for set pieces, it's like something that we can avoid.

“Every week is a learning, and we have to keep improving. We are with the confidence high because we believe in ourselves.

“I think that we are in the race for everything, for the league, for the Champions League spot, for everything. Still 27 points to play and we are confident we can win all the matches.”
