Ypema joins Hearts Women
30 January 2025Hearts Women are pleased to announce the arrival of Danique Ypema who joins the club from Feyenoord, subject to international clearance, SFA and visa approval.
The central defender, who has spent her entire career to date in Holland began her career with Heerenveen, making 22 appearances before making the switch to FC Twente.
Ypema enjoyed success at Twente, winning the Dutch League on two occasions and a domestic cup. She made 43 appearances while at the club, ten of which came in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Danique then made the move to Feyenoord, spending three seasons in Rotterdam, where she made 28 appearances.
A Dutch internationalist at youth level, Ypema now makes the switch to Edinburgh, joining the Jambos on a deal until the summer.
Speaking to the Official Hearts Website on the move, manager Eva Olid said:
“It’s no secret that we’re a little light on numbers in the backline, with a couple of long-term injuries, so firstly we’re pleased to be able to strengthen in that area.
“Danique fits our profile and the style we want to play. She’s comfortable in possession, but is also aggressive in her defending, which I love. Having spent her entire career in Holland, she’s had a great football upbringing.
“Her personality has shone through in the meetings we’ve had, and I have no doubt that she will be a good addition to our squad.”
Women’s head of recruitment Sean Burt added:
“We came into the January window looking to add quality to our squad and at times, it can take a little longer to achieve that. However, we’re delighted to get the deal for Danique over the line.
“Danique’s playing pedigree speaks for herself and the fact she was keen to join us highlights the strides we continue to make as a club within women’s football.
“She has a great personality and I’m looking forward to seeing her push the team closer to this season’s objectives.”
