Critchley previews Dundee (H)

06 March 2025

Head coach Neil Critchley admits he’s looking forward to the next match with a spot at Hampden up for grabs this Friday night.

The Jambos welcome Tony Docherty’s Dundee to Gorgie for a Scottish Cup Quarter-Final under the floodlights and despite winning the previous meeting 6-0, the head coach is expecting a difficult match.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Critchley believes the match is a good opportunity for his side to bounce back following derby disappointment last time out.

You'd like to think so because we're at home as well and any chance to get to Hamden is a big game, it's a special game.

We know it'll be a tough game. Dundee had a lift last week with their point [against St Johnstone]. It'll be a cup competition so maybe a slightly different approach in terms of how they'll feel psychologically going into the game.

But it's about us, it's about how we play, how we play at home and we want to make sure that we show a response from our game last week.

“We've won a lot of games since I came in, back in October. We've been moving forward; we've shown progress and the second half last week we weren't good enough. So, we have to be honest in that and accept the criticism that comes your way.

But the beauty of this industry is you have an opportunity to put it right in your next game. Our next game is a really big game again.

“I think we've definitely shown progress. Until the second half of last week we've been playing quite well, in good form, winning games. We have to make sure that we now show the right response tomorrow night.”

Regarding team news, Critchley confirmed Cammy Devlin will miss the match as he continues his recovery from injury, but there was positive news elsewhere.

“Cammy Devlin won't make it. He had a scan yesterday and went to see his specialist. We had good news. He was back out on the pitch today, running, but this game will come too soon.

“Everyone else is A-OK. Yan Dhanda is fit. Frankie Kent, Halkett, Kingsley, Aidan Denholm are starting to make progress as well. Aidan Denholm came out of his first session this week. They're all back out on the pitch running. They're getting closer, but we'll still be a few weeks away yet.”
