Critchley previews Hampden Semi

17 April 2025

Head coach Neil Critchley insists Saturday's Scottish Cup Semi-Final is a 'great occasion' for the group to look forward to.

The Jambos head to the National Stadium on Saturday for a semi-final showdown against Aberdeen with the men in maroon looking to bounce back after a disappointing afternoon at Fir Park last weekend.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, head coach Neil Critchley said:

“It's natural to have that disappointment. Saturday wasn't a pleasant day, but that's the industry, that's the game you're in, you have to overcome disappointment. You have to put that to the back of your mind and move on very quickly, and that's what we've done.

"Because with this game, you always get a chance to right a wrong and that comes this Saturday.

We've had to work extremely hard to be in this position. We've earned the right to be here. We've had to overcome some difficult moments in this competition against tough opponents to be here. So we need to embrace this challenge.

"We're in a semi-final of the National Cup and it's a great occasion, one we're really looking forward to and we know what's in front of us."

The Jambos will be backed by over 21,000 supporters at Hampden and Critchley admits it's crucial the group use that to their advantage.

"We have to use that to our advantage, yes. We have to use the emotion and the passion that will come from the stands. But that will start from us and how we perform.

"If the supporters see a performance and a team that are giving their all and playing in a certain way in a certain manner, then we can feed off each other. That can then be an advantage, because the energy that will be in the stadium, you hope that that energy is all with us."

Academy Graduates James Wilson and Adam Forrester both pledged their futures to the club earlier in the week by penning new long-term contracts and Critchley admits it's important business for the club.

"Two young players who have come through the academy, we want to be a club that is promoting our own players and giving them an opportunity to play it good enough. Both players have proven that they are good enough.

"For them to show their commitment to us, and for us to offer those contracts and the length of contracts, I think is really important for both of them and for the football club."
