Match Report: Hearts Women 2-3 Glasgow City (AET)

10 March 2025

Hearts Women’s Scottish Cup journey came to an end with a 3-2 loss after extra time in the quarter-finals against Glasgow City at Oriam on Sunday.

Nicole Kozlova opened the scoring for the visitors before Bayley Hutchison equalised and eventually put Hearts ahead with 10 minutes to go. Substitute Lisa Forrest struck late on for 2-2, before Kimberley Smit scored a 98th minute winner in extra-time.

Eva Olid made three changes from the 2-2 away draw against Rangers, with Lauren Wade, Naomi Powell and Monica Forsyth coming in to replace Jess Husband, Kayla Jardine and Jackie Richards.

Glasgow City looked the most threatening in the first half, as they controlled the possession and penned Hearts back.

The Jambos defence was tested early on as Nicole Kozlova whipped in a dangerous cross to the back post and Kimberley Smit got her head on it, which forced a great reaction save from Hearts goalkeeper Charlotte Parker-Smith.

Brenna Lovera looked to capitalise on a slip at the back for Hearts, as she struck a curled shot from just outside the box on her right foot which went wide of the target.

The visitors made their early pressure count on 23 minutes. The ball was fizzed across the box which found Nicole Kozlova who slotted home for 1-0.

Hearts hit back just before half-time. The ball was lofted forward from deep which split the Glasgow City defence, and Hutchison latched onto it before prodding home into the bottom left corner for 1-1.

Half-time: Hearts 1-1 Glasgow City

The women in maroon came out the blocks quickly in the second half and looked promising in attack.

Skipper Emma Brownlie utilised the space on the right wing to drive forward and played a great pass across to Eilidh Shore at the edge of the box, but her right footed effort sailed over the crossbar.

Kayla Jardine whipped in a corner from a right which found Georgia Timms at the back post who rose the highest to meet it. Her header forced a good low stop from goalkeeper Lee Gibson to keep it 1-1.

Hearts took the lead on 79 minutes. Glasgow City failed to clear their lines and Bayley Hutchison snatched the ball and showed great composure to chop on to her left foot and hit a powerful strike past Gibson for 2-1.

Lisa Forrest got Glasgow City level in the 89th minute after she was played in behind the Hearts defence by Linda Motlhalo, and struck one on her right foot past Parker-Smith for 2-2.

Just before full-time, Hearts were down to 10 after referee Lewis Hogarth showed a second yellow card to defender Lizzie Waldie.

Extra-time

The visitors were buoyed by the red card decision, and looked to use the momentum to their advantage.

In the 98th minute, Mairead Fulton whipped in a corner from the right and it was eventually bundled over the line by Kimberely Smit for 3-2.

Hearts’ players gave everything for 120 minutes, but ultimately it wasn’t enough as they exited the Scottish Cup.
