Match Report: Rangers Women 4-0 Hearts Women

30 March 2025

Hearts Women were defeated 4-0 by Rangers in their post-split clash at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday.

Two goals each from Brogan Hay and Rio Hardy made it an afternoon to forget for the Jambos.

Eva Olid made a single change from the 3-1 home victory against Celtic, with Danique Ypema coming in to replace Erin Husband in defence.

Rangers were the superior side in the first half, and looked a constant threat going forward.

Hearts goalkeeper Rachael Johnstone was called into action straight away. Chelsea Cornet picked the ball up outside the box and hit a powerful strike on her right foot which forced a low stop from Johnstone to gather it.

Brogan Hay opened the scoring for Rangers inside the opening 10 minutes.

Following a corner from Hearts, the ball was played back to Rachael Johnstone, who perhaps wasn’t expecting the pass, and Hay was quick to nick the ball off the goalkeeper. She drove forward and slotted the ball into an empty net for 1-0.

The Jam Tarts had a great chance to answer back a few minutes later.

Georgia Timms dribbled well down the right and played a great ball across to Bayley Hutchison in the box. She made a good connection with it on her right foot, but it was straight at Jenna Fife in goal for Rangers.

The home side continued to test the Hearts defence. Kirsty Howat was slipped through on goal, but her strike went wide of the target in the end.

In the 27th minute, Eilidh Shore had her pass intercepted in midfield by Hay. She strode forward into the box, and her effort sailed over the crossbar.

Lauren Wade whipped in a dangerous ball to the back post which found Kayla Jardine, but her header was a comfortable take for Fife.

The women in maroon would soon rue the chance to get themselves back on level terms.

Rangers doubled their advantage on 38 minutes. Hay whipped in the cross from the left, Hardy was left in plenty of space and headed past Johnstone for 2-0.

Half-time: Rangers 2-0 Hearts

The home side continued to turn the screw in the second half, and soon added a third goal.

Brogan Hay played the corner short and the ball was threaded through to Howat who whipped an inviting cross in which Rio Hardy met, and headed past Johnstone for 3-0.

Shortly after, there was some neat play between Eilidh Shore and Bayley Hutchison at the edge of the box. After a nice one-two, Shore managed to get a strike away, but couldn’t generate enough power on it to test Fife in goal.

In the 56th minute, Hearts were caught in possession at the right corner flag. The ball was fired into the box from the right which found Hay, who hit a low strike into the bottom left corner for 4-0.

Hearts huffed and puffed, but in truth, the game fizzled out, as Rangers stayed compact in their shape to deny any real late attacking opportunities for the Jambos.
