Match Report: Hearts Women 0-0 Glasgow City

20 April 2025

Hearts Women battled to a 0-0 draw against Glasgow City at Oriam on Sunday afternoon.

It completed a successful week for the women in maroon, having taken seven points from nine in their last three matches in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Eva Olid made three changes from the 2-0 victory over Motherwell on Wednesday evening.

Lauren Wade came in for Addison Handley, Joely Andrews replaced Sade Adamolekun in midfield and Jess Husband started in place of Monica Forsyth on the wing.

The Jambos made an impressive start to proceedings and were full of energy as they looked to cause Glasgow City problems from the off.

In the opening minute, Bayley Hutchison drove into the heart of the City defence and spread the play out wide to Jess Husband, who delivered an inviting cross which found Georgia Timms, but her header was denied by Lee Gibson in goal.

Joely Andrews drove forward from midfield, played it to Hutchison who found Jess Husband on the right again, who whipped in another dangerous cross to the back post and Timms’ strike at full stretch hit the left hand post. Hutchison followed up with the rebound, but her effort was blocked and cleared.

Hearts would have been disappointed not to have capitalised on such a strong opening 10 minutes.

Up the other end, City winger Nicole Koslova sprinted down the left and fired in the cross looking to find Brenna Lovera in the box, but Charlotte Parker-Smith was quick off her line to claim it in goal for the Jambos.

In the 37th minute, Bayley Hutchison held the ball up brilliantly at the half-way line and played a great through ball to set Timms away on the left. She drove into the box and her strike hit the side netting.

On 41 minutes, Lovera dispossessed Danique Ypema in defence and dribbled at pace into the box. She fired the ball across the face of goal looking to find Katie Lockwood, but she couldn’t reach it and it went behind for a goal kick.

Half-time: Hearts 0-0 Glasgow City

The Jambos continued to try and find the breakthrough in the second half.

Joely Andrews whipped the ball in from the left wing, which was brought down well by Hutchison who had a swing at it with her right boot, but couldn’t get enough connection and City were able to clear.

The visitors began to grow into the game and posed a real threat in attack.

Claire Walsh got down the left and fired in the cross looking for Lovera, who misjudged the header and Hearts were able to get it cleared.

In the 72nd minute, Lovera was played through on the right and got down to the byline and played a cut-back to Whelan, and her first time strike on her right foot stung the gloves of Parker-Smith.

In the late stages of the game, the Hearts defence showed great resilience to deal with the constant pressure in attack from Glasgow City, with Danique Ypema, Emma Brownlie and Lizzie Waldie making several headed clearances to shut out the visitors.

City could have won it right at the death. Lovera was found free in the box and hit a low strike on her right foot, but couldn’t trouble Parker-Smith with the effort.
