Neil: A Hard Fought Victory
26 February 2025Neil Critchley thought Hearts deserved their “hard fought” 3-1 victory over St. Mirren at Tynecastle Park this evening.
The Jambos came from behind at half-time to pick up a vital three points that takes them into the top six for the first time this season.
And the boss knows how difficult a nut St. Mirren are to crack, with the boss praising the squad’s approach in a big week at the club.
“A real hard-fought victory. We weren't particularly great in the first half, improved in the second half, but had a bit of fortune for the first goal,” he told Hearts TV.
“Really well taken from James Wilson, good composure, and a fantastic second goal. That allowed us to play a little bit more on the break.
"Then to come onto us and leave space, which we could capitalise on. I thought the defence were brilliant, second half especially, the number of long balls you have to deal with.
"It was a bit stop-start, which is the type of game that they like. Long balls, direct, and it's not easy to play against. Everyone has to defend and pick up first balls, second balls, which allows you to build momentum.
“We weren't great on the ball, if I'm honest. Of course, to come back from 1-0 down and score three goals in the second half has been a really good evening for us.”
