Neil: We'll Learn From This

16 February 2025

Neil Critchley lamented Hearts’ missed chances as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat to Rangers at Tynecastle Park.

Despite a well taken equaliser from Michael Steinwender, Rangers hit back with two further goals to claim all three points at Tynecastle Park.

“I’m scratching my head a little bit to be honest. I'm not sure how to feel because there's so many positive things to take from the performance,” he told Hearts TV.

“It's not often you have more of the ball than Rangers and create as many chances as we have and clear-cut chances as well. Yet we've come off the back of a 3-1 scoreline. It was difficult to take.

“We needed to take the chances. I think that's obvious. I think that's the overriding feeling or assessment of the game today.”

Despite falling short today, the boss is confident the squad will learn lessons from the match ahead of next Sunday’s trip to St. Johnstone.

“You want to play on emotion and sometimes with emotion and belief and passion, that can affect your decision-making. That's the period of progression of this team,” he added.

“We'll learn to develop into making better decisions in those moments. You can't ask for emotion and aggression and insensitivity and then question every player's decision because sometimes they're going to get some things wrong. It's how we then respond and react in those moments.

“We'll become better off the back of it. We'll keep learning, as we always do. We've got a week to look forward to our next game now.”
