Sibbick leaves for Wigan

24 July 2024

Toby Sibbick has left Hearts to join Wigan Athletic.

The defender makes a permanent switch to the Latics for an undisclosed fee, subject to Scottish FA approval and international clearance.

25-year-old Toby first pulled on a maroon shirt in 2020 during a loan spell which was cut short through injury.

He returned to Tynecastle in 2022 and would go on to make 87 appearances. He scored one goal, a memorable third of the afternoon in the Jambos’ 3-0 Scottish Cup rout over Hibs at Easter Road.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, Head Coach Steven Naismith said: “I had an honest conversation with Toby and told him that chances to play first-team football were going to be limited.

“That’s natural in football as your squad evolves over time, so it makes sense for him to move on.

“I’m happy that he’s got a move to a good club. Toby is an excellent professional and I’m sure he’ll do well at Wigan.

“I thank him, on behalf of everybody at the club, for all of his efforts at Hearts and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
