Spittal relishing Copenhagen clash
11 December 2024Blair Spittal says Hearts are relishing the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with European heavyweights Copenhagen at the Parken Stadium tomorrow evening.
The boys in maroon landed in the Danish capital today ahead of the Jambos’ penultimate UECL league phase match against the 15-times Superliga champions.
With over 3,000 supporters expected to be at the national stadium in Copenhagen tomorrow, our forward is expecting a great occasion as the capital clubs prepare to cross swords.
“Obviously that's always what happens after you get a victory, you're itching for the next game to come along, so we've had a good couple of days training, came over here and got used to the surroundings. It's a lovely stadium, so I'm really looking forward to the game now,” he told the media ahead of the game.
“It's a different experience altogether in terms of playing in Europe and that's what you want to do as a player, so getting to come to different countries, experience different sort of stadiums that you don't get to do every week, I'm really looking forward to what comes tomorrow and hopefully we can put on a good performance.”
After a morale boosting win against Dundee at Tynecastle last week, Blair hopes to set the record straight on European matters – with the forward admitting to a lasting frustration.
The Jambos were sunk by Cercle Brugge in our last European match, but Spittal hopes Hearts can take lessons from that 2-0 defeat in Bruges.
“I think it was one of real frustration, I think given how the game went, there wasn’t a lot between the two teams and they punished us in key moments and it's something we need to learn from,” he explained.
“The last couple of games we've lost but I think overall in Europe we've performed well, so it's going to be a tough test tomorrow. We're going to have to be really concentrated throughout the 90 minutes but we're aware of what the job is at hand.”
