Beni's praise for full Hearts

02 November 2024

Beni Baningime believes the Hearts squad displayed outstanding character as they saw off St. Johnstone in a 2-1 win at McDiarmid Park on Saturday.

The midfielder made a triumphant return to the starting line up after recovering from illness; putting in a classy performance in Perth, before setting up Kenneth Vargas’s second half winner with a fantastic assist.

Aware that the Jambos still weren’t at their sparkling best, Beni says the boys’ attitude was spot on as they ground out an important three points that lifts the Jambos off the foot of the Premiership table.

Oh yeah, it was, as I said before, a great win where we showed great character,” he told Hearts TV.

“It wasn't our best game and it wasn't our best performances of the season, but I think the character and the boys continuing when they scored, I looked right at the gaffer and he was like, boys, come on.

“And he spoke about character before the game and he spoke about us winning the game, he spoke about us bouncing back and I think, for us, I'm glad that the boys, we had that character and stepped up.

“I mean, it was kind of a weird game. We started really well, St Johnstone started the second half well and then we come back into it. A bit of fighting at the end, it had a bit of everything, didn't it?

“Yeah, it had a bit of everything, yeah. I thought, honestly, that's the best St Johnstone team I've ever played. Honestly, they were brilliant.

"Every single one of them, you couldn't get near them and kudos to them. But I think, as I said before, it was a great game for us personally. Maybe not the performance wasn't there as we would like, but as I said, the character and I'm very happy with the win.”
