Boateng: Scottish experience will help

09 August 2024

Malachi Boateng reckons his past experience in Scottish football will help him achieve greater success in a Hearts jersey.

The English midfielder has had a whirlwind start to life in maroon since signing on the morning of the Rangers match, with the former Queen’s Park and Dundee man hoping he can maintain his impressive performances in Scottish football after leaving Crystal Palace.

“I’m looking forward to the weekend. It’s obviously a club I know quite well,” he told the media ahead of the game.

“I played against Hearts quite a lot last season, and I was able to see the qualities they have. Edinburgh as a city is fantastic, and Tynecastle is a great stadium to play football. This is a place where I feel I can develop further, so hopefully I can do that.

“I think this is a big step, but a good one for me, and show why I deserve to be here. Europe is obviously a big draw too, it’s something I’ve never done before, this is something that excites me too so I can’t wait.

“I had a few options but when I heard about Hearts’ interest, I knew this was one I wanted to take. It wasn’t a hard decision for me. I know what the culture is like in Scotland, which helps.

“I’ve learned a lot of things about myself and football after my two loan spells. I want it to continue and that’s why I came back up here.”
