Match Report: Broxburn Athletic 0-3 Hearts B
20 April 2025Hearts B signed off their season with a 3-0 victory over Broxburn Athletic in the Lowland League at Albyn Park on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Mackenzie Ross, Dom Plank and Gus Stevenson in the second half sealed the three points for the Wee Jambos.
Angus Beith made three changes from the 3-0 defeat against Albion Rovers last Friday night. Jamie MacDonald replaced Lyndon Tas in goal, Mackenzie Ross came in for Aiden Haddow in attack, and Ryan Duncan started in place of Taylor Hogarth.
The Brox looked the most threatening in the opening 10 minutes. Alassan Jones sprinted down the left wing and fired in a dangerous low cross which found striker Errol Douglas, who’s strike was saved initially by Jamie MacDonald, with Jones following into bundle home the rebound, but it was offside.
Just a few minutes later, Skipper Kenzi Nair made a fantastic block to deny Shaun Brown’s strike in the box.
There was some good linkup play between Connor Dow and Mackenzie Ross who played a neat one two and Ross broke down the right handside and drove into the box, but Broxburn mopped up well in defence.
Just before the break, Broxburn were reduced to 10 men. Referee Daniel Graves showed Errol Douglas a red card for wrestling Gregor Crookston to the ground.
Half-time: Broxburn Athletic 0-0 Heart of Midlothian
The sending off was certainly a big turning point in the match, as Hearts looked to capitalise and began to cause the Broxburn defence problems.
In the 59th minute, the Jam Tarts opened the scoring. The ball fell to the feet of Mackenzie Ross in the box, who hit a powerful low strike on his right foot which took a deflection and into the back of the net for 1-0.
The hosts looked to hit back straight away. Jones looked to profit from a slip from Lucas Smith, as he nipped in behind and hit a strike on his left foot in the box, but couldn’t find the right connection to trouble Jamie MacDonald in goal for Hearts.
On 65 minutes, Ryan Duncan stepped up to take the free kick at the edge of the Broxburn box. He looked to whip the free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner, but it went wide of the right hand post.
With 20 to go, Alfie Osborne dinked the ball brilliantly over the top of the defence which found Connor Dow. He hit one on his left foot which went wide of the target.
The Wee Jambos doubled their advantage on 76 minutes. Dom Plank played straight through on goal, he drove into the box and coolly slotted past Watt into the bottom right corner for 2-0.
Gus Stevenson put the game to bed on 86 minutes. He hit a great low strike on his right foot in the box which nestled into the bottom left corner for 3-0.
The Wee Jambos secured the victory and ended their 2024/25 campaign on a high.
