Handley pens Hearts extension
10 July 2024Hearts Women are pleased to announce that left-back Addie Handley has signed a one-year contract extension that will see her remain in maroon for the upcoming 24/25 SWPL season.
An attacking player, Handley is comfortable on the left of a back four or five and has been a key player in Hearts’ success since arriving in September 2021 from Hibernian.
It’s been a busy summer window for Eva Olid’s side with ten new arrivals already through the door, Handley is the latest to pledge her future to the club following in the footsteps of Lizzie Waldie, Monica Forsyth, Sade Adamolekun, Georgia Hunter, Georgia Timms, Brodie Greenwood and Jess and Erin Husband who have all signed new contracts.
Handley sustained an unfortunate injury towards the end of last season, which ruled her out of Hearts’ first ever Scottish Cup Final at Hampden, but her attention will now be on making more memories in the upcoming season.
Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, manager Eva Olid said:
“Firstly, I’m delighted Addie has committed to another year with. It was very disappointing that she picked up an injury towards the end of the season, as she was in great form at the time and was playing a huge part in what was a successful time for the team.
“Addie has some great attributes. She’s versatile and very quick. For someone so young, that versatility is rare, but it’s a huge benefit to the team.
“It’s almost three years that she’s been with us here at Hearts and in that time, she has developed a lot. I look forward to her returning to training and continuing her development with us here at Hearts.”
Women’s Head of Recruitment Sean Burt added:
“Addie’s versatility is a huge asset and it’s a testament to her hard work that when she joined the club, she’s been able to keep raising her standards as we transition towards being a full-time team and ultimately show us that she deserves to stay here and keep her place.
“As a person, Addie is extremely determined to play as much football as possible, that shows on the pitch, but also off it. We’re delighted that she’s agreed to another season, and we look forward to her return.”
Congratulations, Addie!
