Hearts Women- Squad Update

29 May 2024

Following the conclusion of the 23/24 season, the club can now issue the following update regarding the playing squad.

Upon the expiration of their contracts, the following players will depart the club this summer:

Aimee Anderson- Aimee has spent the last three seasons at the club and will be remembered most fondly for a stunning Edinburgh derby strike towards the end of the 22/23 campaign.

Shona Cowan- An academy graduate, Shona is as hard a trainer as you’re likely to see. A reliable defender whenever called upon; she has been on the full journey under Eva Olid’s stewardship.

Ciara Grant- In the middle of midfield, Ciara has played a huge part in our improved performances and progression over the last two seasons. An Irish internationalist, her arrival brought excellent experience to a fairly young squad, having previously played with Rangers.

Eilidh Davies- Eilidh joined the club from Jeanfield Swifts and made her first team debut towards the end of the 2020/21 season. A central midfielder by trade, Eilidh showed a great attitude to battle back from a difficult injury towards the end of the 22/23 campaign, before joining Dundee United on loan last season.

Jenna Penman- A popular figure in the group, Jenna arrived in the summer of 2022 from Hibernian. A Scotland youth international, Penman scored her first goal in maroon in a Scottish Cup victory over Dundee United in January 2023.

Cailin Michie- After scoring her first goal as a trialist against Aberdeen, Cailin went on to become a key player in midfield, alongside Grant, in the Hearts side that finished fourth in the 22/23 season.

Danni Findlay- Having previously been a part of the side that won the SWPL2, Danni returned to the club last summer after a prolific season at Dundee United and scored some important goals in a maroon jersey throughout the season.

Erin Rennie- Erin is another player who has been here for the full transition at the club. A versatile midfielder, she has been with the club since the end of 2021 and will also depart with fond memories of scoring in an Edinburgh derby victory.

Following the end of her loan deal, Megan Bell will return to her parent club Rangers. Despite only joining the club in January, the Northern Ireland international managed to make her mark in maroon, most notably with a stunning free kick in a derby victory over Hibernian.

Katie Lockwood and Kathleen McGovern have chosen to depart the club to explore pastures new. The duo both joined the club last summer and played a huge part in what was a very successful season for the club.

Katie was awarded the Player of the Year Award at April’s awards ceremony and was the club’s top scorer for the season. Meanwhile, Kathleen also scored in a derby victory over Hibernian and in our Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Spartans.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website on the departures, manager Eva Olid said:

“Firstly, I would like to place on record my thanks to all the players who are moving on.

“In the three years that I’ve been at Hearts, we have gone through a big transition from being an amateur team to going semi-professional. During which, we have made positive improvements and changes.

“All of these players have helped us create history for the football club. Whether it be securing back-to-back 4thplace finishes, reaching our first Scottish Cup Final, or our first victory over a top three side. They’ve all played their part on our journey, and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
