Match Report: Hibs Women 2-0 Hearts Women
10 May 2024Hearts Women were defeated 2-0 by Hibernian at Meadowbank on Friday night.
Eva Olid made four changes from the side that defeated Partick Thistle at the weekend. Charlotte Parker-Smith, Addie Handley, Lizzie Waldie and Megan Bell all came into the side as Rachael Johnstone, Kate Mooney and Jess and Erin Husband dropped to the bench.
In typical derby fashion, it was a cagey beginning with the neither side really taking control in the opening 15 minutes.
Much of the Jambos' joy in the first half came through central defender Lizzie Waldie striding forward from the back to start attacks.
Meanwhile, Hibs generally threatened from set plays, but Charlotte Parker-Smith was on hand to punch away the most dangerous delivery.
The closest opening of the half arrived five minutes from the interval. Again, it was Waldie who started it, driving forward down the left and picking out Sade Adamolekun. She delivered a dangerous cross, which Leah Eddie only just put wide of her own goal. From the resulting corner, Emma Brownlie glanced Katie Lockwood’s header at goal, but it was cleared off the line by a green shirt.
Half-time: Hibernian 0-0 Hearts
As the game approached the hour mark, both sides were continuing to cancel each other out, when out of nothing, the home side opened the scoring. Hearts gave the ball away inside their own half and after Parker-Smith initially denied Jorian Baucom, Addie Handley attempted to get round to clear the ball off the line, but it went in off the Hibs forward to open the scoring.
Olid reacted by making two changes with the introduction of Jess Husband and Kate Mooney. Husband had the Jambos next chance on 67 minutes, but her effort was straight at Katie Fraine from a tight angle.
Hearts huffed and puffed but in truth, both sides had struggled to create openings all evening.
The women in maroon were throwing numbers forward as the game entered the closing stages and they were hit with a sucker punch in stoppage time as Lia Tweedie volleyed home a second to seal the points for Hibs.
