Olid: It’s a night I never will forget

09 September 2024

Eva Olid admits Friday night’s 4-0 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road will be a night she will never forget.

The Jambos were three goals to the good at the interval, thanks to strikes from Eilidh Shore, Georgia Timms and Monica Forsyth in ten first half minutes.

There was a triple change from Hibs at the break, as the home side rolled the dice in an attempt to get back in the game. Hearts had to weather an early storm, but they soon started to look a threat on the break and the fourth goal arrived in the closing stages as Jackie Richards took the ball round Erin Clachers and smashed  it into the empty net to cap a wonderful night’s work for the women in maroon.

“I’m so happy,” Olid told Hearts TV after the full-time whistle.

“I said to the players that I remember my first derby here three years ago. We had such a young squad, and we lost 3-0. To win here tonight, 4-0, that is so difficult so I’m happy.

“In previous years, mentally, they [Hibs] were stronger than us when we played in the stadiums. For me, it’s so important that today we showed mentally we are stronger than before and are ready to play in the stadiums.

“We play our style of play; it doesn’t matter where we are. That is what we have to do. I believe we won because in the first half we were favoured to our style of play and we play a nice football. It’s how we have to play always, it doesn’t matter who the opponent is or where we are. For that, we won the game.

“I enjoyed the first half so much because we were ourselves. Second half, they were better in the first 20 minutes. We needed time to fix what was happening, as they changed the shape. We need to react faster in those situations, but it’s a learning lesson for us.

"They missed some clear opportunities, but we missed two or three opportunities also where we could’ve scored. But I’m so proud of the team and I hope we can be playing this football in all of our matches.
